Guided by For Turiya, an improvisational duet by Alice Coltrane and Charlie Haden that holds deep personal resonance, Study of Movement II continues the exploration begun in Study of Movement I, an earlier improvised dance performed to the same piece. This work delves into the act of recreating movement through charcoal stop-motion, with each hand-drawn frame capturing a fleeting gesture. The piece reflects my connection to dance and the contemplative quality of working frame by frame. Embracing a patient labor, the process became a simple study of movement itself, with each mark exploring the nuances of motion and stillness.
