On My Own Terms
In On Our Own Terms, part of the 5x4x3xqueer series by Dori Förster, Dori Förster and Zaya Brinkop explore visibility, intimacy, and queer identity through a private dance—performed once, just for each other. The dance itself is not shown. Instead, what is offered is an audio narration of how we each experienced the other’s movements, accompanied by a partial view of the watching artist’s eyes and face. This interplay between what is shared and what remains unseen shifts the focus from the physicality of the dance to the act of perception and connection. By framing the experience through the lens of witnessing, the project reflects on what it means to offer visibility on one’s own terms, challenging the reduction of queer identity into something tokenized or oversimplified.
